LabCorp makes major gift to Koury Business Center campaign

Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (LabCorp) has made a major gift to the campaign for Elon University’s planned Ernest A. Koury Sr. Business Center. Details...

In recognition of the gift, the university will name the LabCorp Executive Education Suite, a dynamic learning area in the Koury Business Center that will include three classrooms, a computer lab, three large study rooms and a smaller study room.

A site dedication for the Koury Business Center, which will house the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, will be April 14.

LabCorp has been Elon’s lead partner in establishing an executive education program. Approximately 70 LabCorp employees have participated in the new program, which is scheduled to continue in 2005.

Headquartered in Burlington, N.C., LabCorp is a pioneer in genomic testing and the commercialization of new diagnostic technologies. The company performs diagnostic testing ranging from routine blood analysis to the most sophisticated molecular diagnostics and is one of North Carolina’s largest employers. LabCorp has been at the forefront of new molecular tests to diagnose, treat and manage disease, particularly in the areas of infectious disease, oncology and genetics.

The three-story, 60,000-square-foot Koury Business Center is expected to open in fall 2006. It will include the 240-seat LaRose Digital Theatre, wired for video conferencing and multimedia presentations, the William Garrard Reed Finance Center, featuring real-time data from Wall Street and other global financial markets, and three computer labs outfitted with the latest business software packages.

“The entire Elon community is grateful to LabCorp for this significant gift to the Koury Business Center campaign,” said Elon President Leo M. Lambert. “LabCorp continues its long tradition of leadership and service to the citizens of Alamance County through this gift. As two of the largest employers in the county, it is only natural that Elon and LabCorp work together to enhance the quality of life in our community, and this gift is the latest example of our healthy partnership.”

Burlington, N.C., business leader Maurice Koury made a lead gift to Elon in 2001 to honor his brother, Ernest. The Kourys have been loyal supporters of Elon and are synonymous with business success in the area, with diversified holdings in textiles, land developments and hotels.
