Project Censored director to discuss media coverage, literacy

Peter Phillips, director of media watchdog Project Censored, will discuss stories he says major media outlets are unwilling to fully cover during a lecture at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon University campus. His presentation is free and open to the public.

Based at Sonoma State University in California, Project Censored tracks the news published in independent journals and newsletters. From these, Project Censored compiles an annual list of 25 news stories of social significance that it says have been overlooked, under-reported or self-censored by the country’s major national news media. Phillips will use these stories to give a presentation that focuses on the importance of developing media literacy in a democratic society.
