Elon University and the Elon Athletics Foundation (EAF) announced the establishment of the Jack McKeon Baseball Scholarship on Sunday, April 3 during the pregame festivities at the exhibition game between the Greensboro Grasshoppers and the Florida Marlins. The game was the inaugural contest at First Horizon Park in downtown Greensboro. President Lambert was joined by Zac Walker, chair of the board of trustees, alumnus Eddie Bridges and Trey Stewart, director of development for athletics, in announcing the scholarship. Lambert presented McKeon ’63, manager of the Marlins, with an Elon baseball jersey.

McKeon, a long-time Elon resident, led the Marlins to the 2003 World Series title. This scholarship has been established to honor McKeon and his accomplishments and generosity to the Phoenix baseball program. The scholarship will support Elon baseball as the Phoenix continues to compete at the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Southern Conference.

A core group of donors have established the scholarship and additional scholarship funds will be raised during the Friends of Elon Athletics golf tournament on April 25 at the Alamance Country Club.
