Elon University is pleased to announce the replacement of ninety-seven (97) washers and dryers in the on campus housing facilities with high efficiency Energy Star rated equipment. The exchange took place over the Christmas break. All units were replaced with the exception of Jordan Center and those units will be replaced when The Oaks is constructed.
By replacing the older machines with new Energy Star rated equipment, the University continues to move forward with our concerns about environmental sustainability. It is estimated that with this move alone, more than $18,000 will be saved in utility costs, including water, electricity and natural gas during a one year period. The front-loading washers will use less water and spin clothes better which results in less electricity and natural gas for drying.
