Department of Performing Arts presents “Heidi Chronicles,” Jan. 19-22, Feb. 1-4

The Elon University Department of Performing Arts will present “Heidi Chronicles” by Wendy Wasserstein, Thursday, Jan. 19-Sunday, Jan. 22, and again Wednesday, Feb. 1-Saturday, Feb. 4. Show times are 7:30 p.m., Wednesday-Saturday, and a 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. All performances will take place in the Black Box Theatre, located in the Center for the Arts on campus.

Heidi Holland, with an Ivy League education and a Fulbright in England under her belt, is a lecturer in art history, an expert on female artists virtually unknown in their lifetimes, though their work is as good as that of the male painters who dominated their ages.

Wasserstein has written a thoughtful and very funny drama about the Baby Boom generation and the price its women have paid as they have searched for fulfillment. Wasserstein takes the audience from Heidi’s high school and college days, as she grows in her thinking and view of her role in life, to her experiences with women’s lib focus groups, the Eugene McCarthy campaign, the rise of AIDS, and the gay movement. Ultimately, Heidi realizes what is important to her, not just professionally and philosophically, but personally and emotionally.

Tickets are $12 or free for those with valid Elon identification. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made by calling (336) 278-5650.
