XM Radio, a national satellite radio service that has more than six million subscribers, will carry a program produced in 2004 by Elon University Television Services. The program features renowned professional speaker and humorist Jeanne Robertson, an Elon University trustee. Air dates are March 27, 29 and April 1.
“Jeanne Robertson Southern Style” was recorded in Whitley Auditorium on the Elon campus. A crew of 11 Elon staff and students handled the production under the direction of Linda Lashendock, assistant director of instructional technologies for television services. XM Radio will broadcast the 58-minute program as an audio recording; the program is also available for television on VHS videotape and DVD.
Robertson shares many Elon stories and mentions the university numerous times in this program. The network decided to air the entire show after listeners responded favorably to short clips played on XM over the past year.
XM subscribers can listen to “Jeanne Robertson Southern Style” on XM’s “Laugh USA” Channel 151. The program will air at these times:
• Monday, March 27 — 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST
• Wednesday, March 29 — noon EST
• Saturday, April 1 — 4 p.m. EST
In addition to Lashendock, staff members who contributed to producing the program included Jeff James, Bryan Baker, J McMerty and Marion Aitcheson. Students working on the production included Laith Al Majali, Scott Myrick, Dan Turk, Stephan Hvostik, Daniel Kulick and Dan Pernice.
Robertson, a native of Graham, N.C., averages 90-100 presentations to corporations and associations around the world each year. She stresses how a sense of humor can be an integral part of one’s strategy for success. Robertson has been recognized by her peers with every top honor and designation in her profession including the Certified Speaking Professional designation by the National Speakers Association (NSA) in 1980 and induction into the Speaker Hall of Fame in 1981. ??She served as NSA president in 1985, and in 1989 became the first woman to receive the Cavett Award, the organization’s highest honor.
Toastmasters International named Robertson the recipient of its 1998 Golden Gavel Award, given annually for accomplishments in leadership and communications. She is the only female professional speaker to receive this honor.
?A former Miss North Carolina and Miss Congeniality in the Miss America pageant, Robertson is a 1967 graduate of Auburn University, and the author of three books on humor. The North Carolina Press Association named Robertson its 2001 North Carolinian of the Year for “her popularity on the speaking circuit, her award-winning ways and her representation of North Carolina.” ??
