Students earn writing honors from Times-News

Several Elon students were recognized May 29 for their outstanding work with the Here & Now section of the Burlington Times-News.

Julie Borbeau and Rachel Hinson received Story of the Year honors for their coverage of a summit on AIDS and their visit to an orphanage in the African nation of Namibia. The story appeared in the March 13, 2006 edition of the Times-News.

Olivia Hubert-Allen received the award for AP leader as the writer who most closely follows the Associated Press stylebook. Elon’s Lauren Sims was also recognized as a budding new writer.

Student writers from local middle schools, high schools and colleges contribute to the newspaper’s Here & Now section, published each Monday. The section covers news of interest to local students and highlights outstanding achievements in school and community activities.
