The e-mail survey was conducted May 16-26, soliciting the opinions of about 11,500 alumni in Elon’s e-mail database. About 2,900 alumni filled out the comprehensive questionnaire – an excellent response rate of about 25 percent. Alumni gave consistent high marks to their education, saying Elon did a good job in preparing them for lifelong learning and being active leaders in their communities.

Of those surveyed, 94 percent spend time helping others in need, 82 percent volunteer for community service, 80 percent vote or participate in politics and 78 percent hold leadership positions.

The survey also gave alumni the opportunity to express opinions about services Elon offers to alumni, and their preferences in supporting the university financially.

About 25 percent of alumni say they feel “very connected” to Elon, with another 66 percent feeling “somewhat connected.” Alumni give high marks to the quality of the Magazine of Elon and the university’s Web site.

This is the first comprehensive opinion survey of Elon alumni in many years. To access the survey results, go to: www.elon.edu/2006alumnisurvey.
