Golf Digest magazine ranks Elon’s women’s golf program #20 in the nation in its second annual College Golf Guide. Elon is the top-ranked Southern Conference school in the “Golf First” category, which includes schools recommended for the best junior players who hope to play professionally after college. The schools in this category offer the best facilities and competition.
The rankings are based on team performance over the past four seasons, player improvement, academics, coaches/facilities and climate.
Elon earns its highest scores for academics, ranking fourth behind Rollins College, Stanford University and Duke University.
Elon’s women’s golf team is coached by Chris Dockrill, who is in his eighth season at the university. The team placed fifth in the Southern Conference last spring, second in 2005 and fourth in 2004.
The Golf Digest rankings are included in the magazine’s September 2006 edition.
