Elon pitches in to build playground for Boys and Girls Club

Members of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and other volunteers from Elon University helped build a dream playground for the Boys and Girls Club of Burlington Thursday, Sept. 28. More than 200 volunteers from Elon, Foresters, National Agents Alliance (NAA), KaBoom! and the Burlington community worked to build the playground in one day.

The sisters of Alpha Xi Delta decided to raise $10,000 to build a playground for the Boys and Girls Club in fall of 2005. The women reached their goal with the help of donations from family and friends and by working concessions at Phoenix sporting events, coordinating car washes and bake sales and hosting a 4-square tournament.

During the summer of 2006, Emily Buckley, Alpha Xi Delta’s philanthropy chair, found KaBoom!, a non-profit organization that builds playgrounds around the country. The goal to build a playground at the Boys and Girls club materialized Thursday with the help of KaBoom! and monetary and volunteer aid from Foresters and NAA. The playground is valued at $60,000 and will be ready for use on Saturday.
