South African ambassador to U.S. to present Sigma Tau Delta lecture at Elon, Oct. 23

Barbara Masekela, South African ambassador to the United States, will present the Annual Sigma Tau Delta Lecture at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 23 in McKinnon Hall located in Moseley Center on the Elon University campus. Sponsored by the Department of English and Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society, Masekela’s lecture is free and open to the public.

Masekela taught at Rutgers University before , serving as the founding secretary of the African National Congress Office of Arts and Culture. She has served on the ANC National Executive Committee and has been active in the ANC Women’s League. South African President Nelson Mandela appointed Masekela ambassador to the Republic of France and to UNESCO in 1995 and in 2003, she was named South African ambassador to the U.S.
