Hudgins, Nkang earn football All-America honors

It marks the second consecutive year that Nkang, right, has been named to the AP’s second unit and the first time that the AP has recognized two Elon players on its NCAA-IAA All-America team in the same year.

Elon, which finished the 2006 season with a 5-6 overall record, led the Southern Conference and ranked 13th in the NCAA-IAA in passing offense with 246.1 yards per contest. The Phoenix defense led the league and tied for sixth in the nation with 17 interceptions. Elon topped the conference and rated 18th nationally with 6.9 tackles for loss per contest. The Phoenix ended up third in the conference and ranked 20th nationally with a +0.55 turnover margin.

Hudgins, right, led the Southern Conference and ranked second in the NCAA-IAA with 102.7 receiving yards per game. He led the league and ranked seventh in the country with 6.9 receptions per contest.
 
Nkang headed the SoCon and tied for fourth nationally with 11.6 total tackles per performance. He also led the league and tied for 15th in the country with 1.5 tackles for loss per outing.
