Nkang to play in Hula Bowl

Phoenix linebacker Chad Nkang will be the first Elon football player to participate in the Hula Bowl, one of the nation's top all-star games for college seniors, this Sunday in Honolulu. Details...

Nkang, an All-America selection, will play in his final college football game when he represents the Kai Team (West) against the Aina Team (East) in the 2007 Cornerstone Bancard 61st Annual Hula Bowl All-Star Football Classic at 8:30 PM EST Sunday at Aloha Stadium on the island of O’ahu.
Televised on ESPN, the Hula Bowl offers invited college all-stars an
environment to showcase their talent in front of scouts representing
every National Football League team. The days leading up to the game
feature competitive practices also held at Aloha Stadium, home of the
NFL Pro Bowl. Players will be evaluated by NFL general managers, scouts
and personnel directors at all of the practices as well as the game.

The
first Elon player to ever be invited to the Hula Bowl, Nkang arrived in
Honolulu on Monday along with the game’s other players and coaches. On
Tuesday, the players met with NFL officials for a private session for
weights and measures before beginning a walk-thru practice and meetings
with position coaches.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the players will participate
in competitive practices in full gear. Each of these practice sessions
is open to the public. A youth football league camp will take place on
Saturday. Hula Bowl players and coaches will contribute as instructors
in the camp.

A two-time Buck Buchanan Award finalist and two-time Southern
Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Nkang paced the SoCon and tied
for fourth in the nation with 11.6 total tackles per game in 2006. He
also led the league and tied for 15th in the country with 1.5 tackles
for loss per contest this past season.
