Business students place third in international competition

Elon students Maggie Smyth and Andy Fox, junior entrepreneurship students in the Love School of Business, placed third in the Think Tank business idea competition at the Next Generation Entrepreneurship Conference (NGEC). The conference, held March 1-3, was sponsored by the International University of Monaco (IUM) in Monte Carlo.

The NGEC conference attracted entrepreneurs, professors, students and speakers from around the world. The Think Tank competition consisted of teams representing schools such as the University of Michigan, Cambridge University (UK), IUM, and Elon. Each team was given twenty minutes to present and defend their ideas before a panel of business leaders and venture capitalists. During the two-and-a-half days of competitions, seminars, speakers, and networking opportunities, students and young entrepreneurs mingled and learned from many internationally successful entrepreneurs.

Smyth and Fox presented the concept for their company,YOUnique Images, an innovative web-based graphic arts business. YOUnique Images is one of four business ideas being developed by entrepreneurship students in the new LSB entrepreneurship concentration. In mid-April the four teams will compete for funding of up to $5,000 to operate their businesses from Elon University campus next fall.
