New Student Orientation student staff wins honors

Elon’s New Student Orientation took 14 Head Staff team members to the 32nd Annual Southeastern Regional Orientation Workshop (SROW) in Tallahassee, Fla., March 2–4. In addition to the skit and banner competitions, team members Lisa Dawn Akers and Kenrick (KC) Samuelson participated in the Case Study competition and won 1st place for best problem-solvers. The Head Staff also presented two workshops on incorporating experiential learning and group development theories into their Orientation programs.

The 2007 Student Leadership Award was presented to Elon’s Amy Carraux for her leadership as coordinator for the 2006 Orientation season. Each year students are nominated for the award based on their leadership skills and effectiveness with their Orientation program. Carraux was the winner from an outstanding field of finalists who represented 78 colleges and universities in the Southeast region. She will be recognized at the 2007 National Orientation Directors Association’s Conference in Dallas, Texas in October.
