Death of Elon student James Michael Foreman

The university community is deeply saddened by the tragic death of student James Michael Foreman.  Michael was hit by a train which was traveling west through the intersection of Oak Avenue and Trollinger Avenue at about 5:40 p.m., Wednesday, April 11. We do not know why he was on the tracks at the time. He died immediately.

Michael was recognized on the dean’s list this fall and was majoring in communications. He was from Raleigh, North Carolina.

The loss of a classmate and friend is disconcerting.  Those who knew Michael may wish to speak with their minister or speak with a counselor.  If anyone needs assistance tonight, please call Campus Security at 278-5555 and ask to speak with the Counselor on Call.  Also, do not hesitate to contact the Chaplain’s Office at 278-7729, Counseling Services at 278-7280 or the Office of Student Development at 278-7200.

Thursday night after the SGA meeting (at approximately 9 p.m.) there will be a “Gathering of Friends” in Moseley 215 for all who wish to share their feelings of loss and reflect on memories and good times with Mike. We will notify the university community when we receive information about funeral arrangements and where cards, flowers or other means of offering condolences to the family may be sent.

Please keep Mike’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
