Clark named director of development communications

Bobby Wayne Clark has been named director of development communications in the Office of Institutional Advancement at Elon University. He will supervise a variety of communications regarding Elon’s fundraising and donor relations.
    Clark comes to Elon with a rich and diverse background in higher education. For the past three years he operated a Rhode Island-based consulting firm, “Communications for Higher Education.” His clients included Duke, Miami and Wesleyan universities, and Guilford, Salem and Wheaton colleges.
    From 2002 to 2004, Clark was director of institutional advancement for The Wheeler School in Providence, R.I., where he planned and conducted the school’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign.
    Clark spent six years in North Carolina, serving as vice president for public affairs and special assistant to the president at Guilford College in Greensboro from 1999 to 2002, and as director of university relations at Duke University from 1996 to 1999.
    He previously served as director of public information and publications at Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., and as associate director of the news bureau at Brown University, Providence, R.I.
    Clark began his career in 1972 as an editor for three weekly newspapers published by Southern Rhode Island Publications, Warwick, R.I.
    Clark has a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and a master’s degree from Boston University.
