This is the largest single gift ever by a family to the university. The scholarship fund will make an Elon education possible for female students with potential who have limited financial means. The gift will be counted as part of Elon’s upcoming fundraising campaign.
“We are proud to honor Elon and support young women whose lives will be transformed by an Elon education,” Furman Moseley said. “Over time, those awarded Susan Scholarships will reflect the ethnic proportions of our nation, providing a rich diversity of backgrounds, culture and experiences to the campus community.”
Elon President Leo M. Lambert said continued support by the Moseleys over the past three decades has had an extraordinary impact on the university.
“Furman and Susan Moseley have created a remarkable legacy at Elon, and have a gift for identifying our most critical needs,” Lambert said. “Their previous gifts have provided scholarships, along with funding for the Moseley Center, the hub of daily life on campus, the Theos Arch at Rhodes Stadium and the William Garrard Reed, Sr. Finance Center, in our new Ernest A. Koury Sr. Business Center.
“Now the Moseleys are providing leadership in meeting Elon’s next crucial priority, building an endowment to assure the university’s future financial health. I am deeply gratified that they have directed their giving to such a key university priority – ensuring that the gates of Elon can remain open to students of potential with limited financial means.”
Susan Moseley is a Seattle native and has been a dedicated volunteer, serving over the years as a trustee of the School of Medicine at the University of Washington, the Seattle Art Museum, the Henry Art Museum and the Smithsonian Institution National Board.
