Elon parents John and Nancy Cavanaugh make major endowment gift

Elon parents John and Nancy Cavanaugh of New Canaan, Conn., have made a major gift to Elon’s endowment to encourage additional donors to establish endowed scholarships.

The couple’s gift established The Cavanaugh Family Funds, which will be used to match new scholarship gifts, enabling the university to fully fund additional scholarships for athletics, academics, performing arts and programs such as study abroad.

The Cavanaughs recognize the importance of growing the university’s endowment to support new scholarships, enabling deserving students to attend Elon. The couple also believe in building Elon’s endowment as a foundational funding source to secure the university’s long-term future.

John H. Cavanaugh is senior partner of Nutmeg Partners LLC, a Darien, Conn.-based company that develops and owns limited-service hotels in the Eastern United States. Nancy Cavanaugh is an independent commercial interior decorator and board member of the Edward E. Ford Foundation, a major contributor to secondary schools throughout the U.S. The couple are members of Elon’s Parents Council and the parents of Jennifer, an Elon junior, and Brooke, who is a sophomore.
