Alumnus endows scholarship to honor his father and fellow alum

David Krueger-Andes ’65 of Concord, N.H., has endowed
a scholarship fund to honor his father, William J. Andes
’35, an ordained Christian minister for more than 70
years.

The Rev. Dr. William J. Andes ’35 Endowed Scholarship
will be awarded to student leaders who reach out to new or
isolated students and help them feel part of a welcoming
community. Preference will be given to student orientation
leaders, who acclimate new students to the Elon experience.

David Krueger-Andes, who works as a health psychologist,
endowed the scholarship with a $25,000 gift, which will be
added to the 40th reunion giving total for the Class of 1965.

Bill Andes served churches in the Shenandoah Valley area of
Virginia, as well as Winston-Salem and Ruffin, N.C. As pastor
of Elon Community Church, he was instrumental in building its
first official sanctuary, educational rooms and parsonage. He
ministered to Elon College and Elon Homes for Children. Andes
also served in Atlanta for 14 years as conference minister
for the Southeast Conference of the United Church of Christ.
He is married to Lucile Stone, a longtime Elon staff member.
