“U-CAN” provides more easy-to-access data on Elon

Elon University partners today with more than 500 private institutions nationwide for the launch of “U-CAN,” the University & College Accountability Network campus toolkit, a free service to help high school students and parents find concise, consumer-friendly information on prospective universities. U-CAN is sponsored by the National Association of Independent Collegesand Universities. The service contains hundreds of university profileswith links to relevant pages on individual colleges’ Web sites. Some ofthe information includes average loans at graduation, undergraduateclass sizes, enrollment, tuition, graduation rates, student life,campus safety and student demographics.

The Web site, www.ucan-network.org, is meant to complement other waysof researching colleges and not as a replacement for existing optionslikes U.S.News & World Report. There is no charge and the siteaccepts no advertising or sponsorships.

Elon’s participation in the project is in line with its goal of sharingas much information as possible with students, parents and the public.The information available to U-CAN users can also be accessed at theuniversity’s Web site. That information includes:

  • A comprehensive and archived Factbook including data on admissions, faculty, finances, graduates and current students dating back to 1991
  • National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) data 
  • Common data sets with archives to 2000 
  • CIRP survey data with archives to 1997 
  • The Elon strategic plan and annual institutional goals 
  • Organizational charts and a public personnel directory
