Men’s soccer team earns highest Division I ranking ever for an Elon team

Following an 1-0-1 week which included a SoCon victory over Appalachian State and a tie at then #1 Wake Forest, the Elon Phoenix men's soccer squad climbed from ninth to fifth in the South Region in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings released on October 9. Details...

The ranking is the highest regional ranking at the Division I level achieved by an Elon team.  The squad climbed as high as sixth last year.

Elon (6-2-3, 3-0-0 SoCon) is currently tied atop the Southern Conference standings with Furman, who ranks 17th in the nation.

The Phoenix was able to climb in the rankings thanks to a 1-1 tie at then #1 Wake Forest behind a Justin Wyatt goal and five saves from keeper Clint Irwin.  Elon then knocked off SoCon rival Appalachian State by a 4-0 margin on Sunday.  Four different players scored in that win.

Elon is currently riding an eight-match unbeaten streak, the third longest such streak in school history, and has allowed just two goals in that span.
