Second vigil scheduled for missing alumnus

A candlelight service and moment of silence will take place on campus Dec. 9 as part of a national push to keep missing Elon alumnus Kyle Fleischmann in the forefront of public consciousness. The services take place one month to the day after Fleischmann vanished in Charlotte, N.C.

Anyone wishing to take part in the service is asked to arrive in front of the Moseley Center at 4:45 p.m. Candles will be lifted at 5 p.m.

Immediately after the candlelight, there will be a gathering in The Zone in the Moseley Center. This will be an opportunity for Fleischmann’s friends and those closely associated with him to reflect on good times with Kyle, share stories and feelings and support each other.

This gathering in The Zone is a private event and is not open to the general public or the media.

Fleischmann disappeared in the early hours of Nov. 9 after leaving a bar in downtown Charlotte. His story has been publicized in local, regional and national media, including the “Today” show and “America’s Most Wanted.”

Fleischmann, 24, was a business administration management student at Elon and served as an officer in the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity before graduating in 2006. He also volunteered time during his studies to assist Special Olympics, the Boys & Girls Club and Safe Rides.

A $25,000 reward has been offered for information leading to his return. Elon University leaders are asking students and alumni to keep the Fleischmann family in their thoughts.
