Elon receives grants from Sullivan educational foundation

Elon University has received two grants totaling $31,500 from the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, which provides financial support for private colleges and universities located primarily in the South.

Elon received a grant of $24,000 to be used for financial aid, intended for students with financial need who have demonstrated a commitment to community service. The foundation also made a grant of $7,500 to the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Endowment at Elon. This endowment was established in 1998 to provide continuous support for Sullivan Scholars at Elon.

Located in Oxford, Miss., the Sullivan Foundation was chartered in 1934. It promotes service to others and service to the broader community, values exemplified by Algernon and Mary Mildred Sullivan, the parents of the organization’s founder.

In addition to providing support for financial aid to private colleges, the Sullivan Foundation collaborates with 53 southeastern colleges and universities to present awards in memory of Algernon and Mary Mildred Sullivan. These awards recognize exceptional qualities of service and are presented each year to a graduating senior and to a non-student member of the campus community.
