POWER Less Energy Competition – Week 3

More than three quarters of residence facilities showed a reduction in electrictity during the third week of a competition that encourages students to cut their energy use on campus.

Thirty-three of 40 buildings showed improvements for Week 3 of the POWER Less Energy Competition. That number is up 11 from last week and shows that more students are taking part in the contest. Officials are beginning to hear stories of student involvement.

According to Paul Holt, maintenance control manager for Elon University, one employee from the electrical department noticed that the hall lights had been out several times over the last couple weeks when he had been in the Carolina building doing other work orders. He later noticed a student turning the hall light off, something not seen before in the housing area. He also mentioned that he has noticed that it was more than one student turning the lights off.

Holt asks that stories of student involvement be emailed to holtpa@elon.edu.
