POWER Less Energy Competition – Week 7

As the 2008 POWER Less Energy Competition comes to a close, every residence hall on campus has shown reductions in the amount of electricity consumed on a weekly basis.

The entire effort saved 111,762 KWH of electricity below the baseline readings for 40 residence halls, buildings and apartments. Environmentally, this means that the students prevented 45 tons of coal from being mined in West Virginia, 63 tons of carbon dioxide (global warming), 291 pounds of nitrogen oxides, and 726 pounds of sulfur dioxide (acid rain, etc.) from polluting our atmosphere.

The Building Award (environmentally green T-shirts from TS Designs) and the Area Award (Elon Oak Trophy w/self powered LED-lit crystal) will be presented by Smith Jackson to Loy G, H, I and Loy Center, respectively, at the College Coffee on April 22 during Earth Week. Come and enjoy…Go Elon, Go Green!
