Police to train on campus TODAY

Elon University police and campus safety, in coordination with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct a daylong crisis training exercise on Thursday, July 17, which will affect traffic, activities and parking in certain areas of campus.

The exercises involve police officers and sheriff’s deputies in assault gear with non-lethal air rifles. The goal of the exercise is to further strengthen law enforcement responses to crisis situations at the university.

The training in the Smith Hall dormitory will result in the closure of the Mooney building parking lot. Officers not involved in various scenarios scheduled throughout the day will be stationed from Powell building to Antioch Avenue, and from Haggard Avenue to Lebanon Avenue, to keep passersby away from the exercise.

Training runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Elon University students, faculty, staff and visitors can avoid causing disruptions by remaining clear of the area around Smith Hall.
