IGNITE young alumni giving program off to successful start

Since last week's launch of the IGNITE annual giving program, 32 young alumni have joined this donor recognition group by making gifts to support the hallmarks of an Elon education.

Graduates of the past decade can join IGNITE by making a gift of any size to Elon this year. Young alums are encouraged to go to the new IGNITE Web site to learn more about this important donor group, to make a gift and to register for an IGNITE NITE in their area.

IGNITE NITES are hosted by young alumni to build membership and to give alums a chance to network and socialize. There will be additional opportunities to join IGNITE at Homecoming Nov. 7-9.

Alumni also are encouraged to join the new IGNITE group on Facebook. Click on the link at the upper right to join that group.

By giving to IGNITE, young alumni support the things they cherished most about Elon: outstanding faculty scholars, superb facilities, small classes and quality programs such as research, study abroad, internships, service and leadership.

IGNITE was the brainchild of Elon’s Young Alumni Council, which played a critical role in its launch. Elon’s alumni body is young — 40 percent of alumni have graduated since 1998 — which makes support from recent graduates key to securing the university’s future.

Since the start of the fiscal year on June 1, young alumni have made$56,330 in gifts and pledges to the university. All young alums whohave made gifts to Elon since June 1 are members of IGNITE.

“I am proud to be a member of IGNITE, knowing that my gift is making a difference to current students and to students in the future,” says Josh Felix ’00, a Young Alumni Council member from Atlanta.

“The IGNITE program is one of the most important projects that has been launched for young alumni,” Felix says. “IGNITE gives young alums the opportunity to give back to a place that gave so much to each graduate. Elon is not just a school we attended — Elon gave us lifelong learning skills. Our gifts create a special environment at Elon that we can be proud to call home.”
