Elon praised by National Wildlife Foundation report card

Elon University was recognized for its environmental commitments in the
National Wildlife Federation’s 2008 Report Card on Sustainability in
Higher Education.

Elon was commended for having an exemplary interdisciplinary degree
program and was the only school in North Carolina to be cited for
higher level environmental and sustainability personnel and
orientations.

The NWF Report Card tracks the development of sustainability
initiatives at 1,068 higher education institutions. It recognizes
strides that the academic community is making in the areas of
management, operations and academics.

“I was very pleased to see Elon recognized at the national level for
its sustainability efforts, particularly those in
sustainability-related education,” said Elaine Durr, Elon’s
sustainability coordinator. “It says a great deal about Elon to be
recognized for this strength, when overall the study found that such
programs did not flourish on U.S. campuses nationwide.”
