Italian Folk and Popular Music: An Evening of Song and Story with Mebanella – Oct. 9

Casa Italiana, the Italian Living/Learning Community, with the assistance of La Maison Française, its French counterpart, will host una serata di musica popolare e moderna— a special evening of Italian folk song and story with the musicians of Mebanella on Oct. 9.

Free food and beverages will be available beginning at 6 p.m.; the music, singing and discussion will begin at 6:30 p.m. The serata will take place in Colonnades A, Room 211. Knowledge of Italian is not required.  Your passport to this marvelous musical and narrative experience is simply an appreciation of the transformative power of music and story in human experience and the life-blood of a culture.

Mebanella is composed of members of the acoustic-roots ensemble Mebanesville performing songs in due, tre o quattro in almost anything BUT English. Mebanella’s instrumentation Thursday evening will include accordion, guitar, hand percussion, pennywhistle, violin and voice. Buon divertimento ed avanti popolo e musica popolare
