Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin will speak at Elon University on Thursday, Oct. 16, during a campaign rally at Latham Park in the North Athletics Complex. Gates will open at noon, with Palin’s arrival scheduled for 3 p.m. Appearing with Palin will be music star Hank Williams Jr.
There is no charge for the rally, but tickets will be required for admission. Elon University students, faculty and staff will be eligible to receive one ticket each with a swipe of their Phoenix card.
Ticket distribution for those with Phoenix Cards will be in the concourse of Koury Athletics Center beginning at noon today (Tuesday) and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
Family members and other members of the general public may NOT receive tickets at this location.
General public tickets will be distributed by the McCain-Palin campaign at a number of McCain-Palin offices around the state. In Alamance County, tickets will be distributed at the Republican Party headquarters, 16 Court Square, Graham, N.C. (336-222-8289) (See below for other locations outside of Alamance County)
Note that the audience for the rally will be standing on the baseball field, with no seating. Folding chairs, bags, backpacks and signs will not be permitted in the stadium.
Due to the large crowds expected for this event, traffic in and around campus on Thursday will be congested. Parking for the event will be on the Firehouse Field on Williamson Avenue.
Phoenix Drive will be closed to thru traffic Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. Williamson Avenue will be closed between Haggard Avenue and University Drive beginning at 10 a.m. Resident students may access the Harper Center parking lot only via O’Kelly Avenue after 9 a.m. Thursday. Residents of The Oaks will be allowed entrance to their parking lot upon showing valid ID.
All regular Elon classes and activities on Thursday will take place as scheduled.
