Homecoming opens with College Coffee and Spirit Rally

Homecoming 2008 kicked off Nov. 7 with a special College Coffee and Spirit Rally around Fonville Fountain, with appearances by the Phoenix football team, cheerleading and dance squads, and marching band.

The Phoenix football team was welcomed by students, alumni and staff on Nov. 7 during a special College Coffee and Spirit Rally.
The warm afternoon event followed the Golden Alumni Luncheon and Class of 1958 induction. With alumni, faculty, staff and students in attendance, the rally included remarks from Phoenix head football coach Pete Lembo and members of his team.

“Our goal was to build a program that everyone associated with the university could be proud of,” Lembo said of his arrival three years ago. “We’re going to do our best to get win No. 8 tomorrow, and win No. 6 in the Southern Conference.”

Alumni gathered later in the evening for a performance by the 1960s group The IN-MEN, featuring six alumni performers. Graduates from 1998 to 2008 later partied in The Lighthouse for the Young Alumni Party, where they learned more about IGNITE, the giving program for graduates of the past decade.
