Women’s Law Association takes on domestic violence

The Women’s Law Association at the Elon University School of Law helped educate the Greensboro community last month about the effects of, and ways to prevent, domestic violence in North Carolina with its three-day Domestic Violence Awareness Campaign.

The Women’s Law Association hosted a three-day campaign last month to educate people about the effects of domestic violence.

“Breaking the Chain of Domestic Violence” served as a theme for the Oct. 14-16 campaign, which included an information table at the school for association members to distribute brochures and share information about domestic violence, especially in Guilford and Alamance counties.

Visitors were encouraged to remove a link in a paper chain of domestic violence statistics to symbolize their support of ending domestic violence within North Carolina.

The Women’s Law Association also co-hosted a guest lecture by Lindy Beauregard, a victim advocate and group coordinator for the Women’s Domestic Violence Intervention Program with Family Service of the Piedmont. Beauregard provides services to victims, perpetrators and homicide survivors of domestic violence.

Beauregard discussed symptoms of domestic violence and strategies to use when counseling clients who are victims. The Oct. 16 appearance was co-hosted by OutLaw, an Elon Law student group for the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgendered community.
