David Neville publishes article on using technology in second-language acquisition

David Neville, assistant professor of German and director of language-learning technologies, published the article "Recession-Proofing the Profession with Technology” in the most recent issue of The Language Educator (Volume 4, Issue 2). Published by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), The Language Educator provides educators of all languages at all levels with comprehensive coverage of important trends and developments in foreign language education.

In his article, Neville describes digital technology as a force multiplier that is scalable, can reach students in new and enthralling ways, supports a variety of approaches to second language acquisition, maintains consistent levels of instructional excellence and can ensure continued departmental growth despite shrinking economic resources. He also outlines the ways in which foreign language faculty can develop basic computer literacy and become more involved in the research and development of digital-based instructional resources.
