Elon students place second in Beta Alpha Psi contest

Elon University students Danny Bell, Paul Benedict and Todd Cash placed second in the Best Practices competition at the regional meeting for Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary organization for accounting, finance and information systems students and professionals held late last month in Nashville, Tenn.

The Elon team entered the category of Developing Life Skills: Helping Others Succeed. Students chose for their project to educate fellow Elon students on personal finances.

The project consisted of having a personal finance seminar for Elon students. About 50 students attended the Feb. 25 session in the LaRose Digital Theater where they learned budgeting, saving/investing, and wise use of debt and credit cards.

At the Best Practices Competition in Nashville, the students had 10 minutes to share how they educated students. The team received feedback on their presentation and won $250 with a certificate. Four other schools competed in the same category: LSU (1st), Florida Atlantic (3rd) Murray State and Valdosta State.

This was the first year Elon students entered the competition.
