Pamela Winfield, an assistant professor of religious studies, presented a paper, "Religion and the State in Japan: The Case of Shinnyo-en," and served as moderator and panel respondent to a panel on Orientalism and "The Pull of the East" at the annual SECSOR / regional AAR conference in Greensboro, N.C., from March 13-14.
Winfield’s presentation followed the publication of “The Seven Stages of Spiritual Transformation” in Revisiting Mysticism, published by Cambridge Scholars’ Press in 2008. She had also published four separate book reviews – in Japan Studies Review, Philosophy East & West,The Journal of Buddhist Ethics, and Material Religion – in 2008.
Winfield has been appointed Asian Studies Program Coordinator at Elon effective fall semester 2009.
