Reflector.com: Wednesday at the North Carolina General Assembly

From the Reflector.com (3/18/09): OPENING RECORDS: Gov. Beverly Perdue and Attorney General Roy Cooper will seek legislation clarifying that information about patient deaths inside state mental hospitals are public records.

Written reports released about deaths at state mental hospitals have been heavily redacted. The proposal would require the name, gender, age and birth date of the deceased to be released, when and where the death happened and a brief description of its circumstances. It also would apply to deaths at facilities for substance abusers and the developmentally disabled. Perdue said the move would increase transparency and rebuild public trust in the mental health system.
