“Salute Your Seniors” draws hundreds to the Green

The weather was perfect, right down to the light breeze that stirred the balloon entryway. Hundreds of Elon seniors gathered for one last informal event Wednesday afternoon during the annual “Salute Your Seniors” Senior Class Picnic with faculty and staff on the Green outside of Moseley Center.

Just as many university employees made appearances to chat with students whose lives they helped shape over the past four years.

“We have this picnic to allow seniors one last chance to mingle with faculty and staff before graduation on Saturday,” said Lindsay Hege ’04, assistant director of alumni relations for young alumni. “It also allows them to relax now that exams are over.”

The event was organized by the Alumni Association with support from the Provost’s Office. Alumni office staff encouraged seniors to join IGNITE, the university’s young alumni giving program, by making a gift to their soon-to-be alma mater.

Cut-out mortarboards hanging from the tents listed the names of students, parents and grandparents who have contributed to the senior class gift.

Hanging from the tents were mortarboard cut-outs with the names of the students, parents and grandparents who have already given to the senior class gift.
