Invited by American Law Center Director Ewa Gmurzynska, Peters gave two presentations to lawyers and mediators in the region.

Peters noted the value of the exchange, saying, “Lawyer use of mediation to resolve disputes is a young concept in Poland, because the first statute giving courts authority to divert lawsuits to this process took effect in December of 2006.”

The first presentation by Peters focused on the use of psychological type assessments to improve communication among participants in mediations. The second presentation explored how unresolved conflicts correlate with increased stress in mediation experiences, offering strategies to address conflict and reduce stress in such situations.

Peters also conducted a workshop with law students while in Poland, exploring approaches to dealing with stress in legal studies. In these workshops, participants learned methods of organizing course materials and how to structure their studies in preparation for oral exams.
