President Lambert welcomes Elon Law’s Class of 2012 into the Elon community

At the President's Reception for Elon University School of Law's Class of 2012, held August 19, the law school's newest students enjoyed casual conversation with members of the law school faculty and with members of the leadership of Elon University.

Elon University President Leo M. Lambert and his wife, Laurie Lambert, together with Elon University Executive Vice President Gerald L. Francis, law school Dean George R. Johnson, Jr., and numerous members of the law school faculty joined in welcoming the new class of 121 law students.

At the reception, members of the class spoke with each other about their interests and hopes for the coming year.

Heather Sangtinette, a member of the Class of 2012, said she shared Elon Law’s commitment to community service. “I want to be a public interest lawyer, working in government, perhaps as a prosecutor,” Sangtinette said. “I really like how involved the school is in the community.”

Pamela Lawrence, also a member of the class, said that she learned through pre-law classes at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington, how much she enjoyed the challenge and intrigue that the study of law presents. On her choice of Elon, Lawrence said, “I absolutely love the close-knit atmosphere of the school. It’s exactly the kind of environment I was looking for.“

The reception was a welcome conclusion to a day rich in orientation activities for the class, including outdoor leadership workshops and training events at Elon University’s main campus, directed by Associate Dean of Students Rex Waters, and a series of presentations, including a discussion about the history of Elon University by past-president James Earl Danieley.
