DPT students joined with approximately 70 students from North Graham Elementary School on Oct. 14 for its third annual “Walk to School” event.

In addition to leading group exercises, Elon students distributed personal pedometers to students, along with copies of “Walk the Walk – The Kid’s Book of Pedometer Challenges.” North Graham Elementary students also received sustainable T-shirts made from locally grown North Carolina cotton.

About 70 elementary students took part in the activities.

The Triad District of the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association, in partnership with Elon’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy program, sponsored the local event in celebration of National Physical Therapy Month and International Walk to School Month.

NCPTA is sponsoring a Walk to School Day for 250 kids in four elementary schools across North Carolina, with the help of a grant received from the American Physical Therapy Association.

International Walk to School Day is expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.
