With 39 selections, the Elon Phoenix led the way on the Southern Conference's 2009 fall Academic All-Conference team. The honorees included eight members of the women's soccer team, seven members each from the women's cross country, volleyball and men's soccer teams, and five members each from the football and men's cross country teams.

Elon placed 92 student-athletes on the university’s President’s and Dean’s lists. President’s List recipients recorded a minimum of 12 semester hours and no grade below an A- during the fall semester. Dean’s List honorees posted at least 12 semester hours and no grade below a B- with a semester GPA of at least 3.5 during the fall. The Phoenix had 36 student-athletes among the President’s List members and 56 players named to the Dean’s List.

Elon led all schools with 39 student-athletes on the Academic All-Conference team, followed by Wofford (38), Samford (29) and Appalachian State (28). The league’s women’s soccer teams placed 79 honorees on the team with football adding 71.

The 316 student-athletes, who participated in football, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball recorded a 3.56 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
