Business students deliver food via BioBus

Students in the business communications class led by Betsy Stevens, associate professor of business administration, are using the new Elon BioBus route in Burlington to deliver donated food to Allied Churches of Alamance County, a facility that offers an Emergency Night Shelter, Good Shepherd Community Kitchen, and Christian Assistance Network.

Students Sam Blake and Katie Marshall load the donated food onto Elon’s BioBus for delivery to Allied Churches.

Stevens picks up donated food from Lowes Foods and Food Lion every weekend and delivers the food on Mondays. With the new BioBus route now in operation, sohomores Katie Marshall and Sam Blake were the first to volunteer to use the bus for delivery on Feb. 22. The first delivery of more than 75 pounds of food included cooked rotisserie chickens, fried chicken, pies, sheet cakes, muffins and about 20 loaves of bread. Stevens hopes to make this a regular volunteer activity for her students.
