History professor David Crowe spoke with Reuters news service this week for a story on an original copy of "Schindler's List" that a memorabilia dealer in New York has offered to sell for $2.2 million.

David Crowe, a professor at Elon College in North Carolina and a Schindler expert, had seen a picture of the list and reckoned it could be one of many Schindler produced over the course of the war.
“The Nazis were fanatical about keeping records, new lists were constantly being made,” said Crowe.
The dealer claims the copy owned by his client is the last privately held version still in existence. Three museums have original copies, including the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
Crowe is one of Elon’s most prolific scholars and was named the first recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2000. His biography of Oskar Schindler in 2004 received worldwide acclaim for its groundbreaking view of a historical figure.
He has also written A History of the Gypsies of Eastern Europe and Russia and The Baltic States and the Great Powers: Foreign Relations, 1938-1940. He is president emeritus of the Association for the Study of Nationalities at Columbia University and a member of the Education Committee of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
Crowe is also a fellow at the Center for Slavic, Eurasian and Eastern European Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
