Four Elon University students presented at an international conference in Iceland this month where Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and senior lecturer of entrepreneurship in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, served as a featured speaker and moderated the plenary session launching the 2010 MIT Global Startup Workshop.
The “University Entrepreneurial Ecosytems” session discussed best practices, obstacles and strategies to develop an effective entrepreneurial ecosystem and future directions. Doherty Scholars and Elon students Katie Pietrowski, Tim Porter, Kevin Swett and Alex Trevison presented their insights from students perspective and facilitated an audience discussion of the topic.
The MIT Global Startup Workshop is the world’s premier conference on fostering entrepreneurship through supportive and catalytic infrastructure such as that epitomized by MIT’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The annual three-day conference is organized in close collaboration with partners from a host country to discuss practical steps that can be taken by students, academic faculty, venture capitalists, government leaders, entrepreneurs and top business leaders.
The event provides an unrivaled opportunity to share best practices for fostering and supporting entrepreneurs within and between different regions and for contributing to the global network of entrepreneurial support organizations.
More than 400 attendees participated in the workshop from March 24-26. The workshop theme was “Conquering the Economic Crisis with Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Green Energy.”
