Four 2010 Physical Therapy graduate students, Ashley Davis, Blair Harrison, Mara Hutton and Veronica Zych, will travel to Romania Aug. 19-31, 2010, as part of a Christian mission trip called "Wheels for the World – Romania," organized by Joni and Friends International Disability Center.
The students will first arrive in the capital city, Bucharest, for orientation and then travel to either the mountains or the coast to distribute wheelchairs. As “seating specialist assistants,” the four students will be tasked with helping physical and occupational therapists fit the wheelchairs for individuals and document modifications to the chairs.
The students acknowledge their education at Elon as preparation for the work they will do in Romania and for providing them with the necessary skills to serve underserved Romanians in this way.
The students are requesting prayer and monetary donations, which are due by July 9, 2010, and can be made at the link to the right. The total cost of the trip is $3800. Donations are tax deductible.
Wheels for the World was founded in 1994 and exists to provide wheelchairs for individuals with disabilities. The organization collects manual wheelchairs, restores them at one of the 20 facilities in the U.S., and then distributes them globally.
