Hinshaw, McMichael, Sankey elected to Elon University Board of Trustees

The Elon University Board of Trustees elected three new members at its spring meeting. W. Eric Hinshaw of Durham, N.C., Dalton L. (Mac) McMichael Jr. of Stoneville, N.C., and James K. Sankey of Charlotte, N.C., will join the board at its fall meeting, Oct. 22-23.

W. Eric Hinshaw

Hinshaw has served as chairman of the board and CEO of Kingsdown, Inc., since 1982. During his tenure, the company has expanded from a small regional mattress manufacturer to a company with an international presence in 23 countries and nine manufacturing facilities worldwide.

In 2009, Hinshaw received the Frank S. Holt, Jr. Business Leadership Award from Elon’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, the university’s highest honor for business leadership.

Hinshaw is a past member of the advisory board for the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University and a winner of the prestigious Charles A. Dukes Award. A member of the National Board for Duke Children’s Hospital, he recently provided a fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at Duke University, which was named in honor of his wife, Rebecca, and himself.

An Alamance County native, Hinshaw holds a bachelor’s degree in management science from Duke University.

Dalton L. (Mac) McMichael Jr.

McMichael is founder and president of McMichael Mills, Inc., which manufactures and distributes high quality covered elastic yarns. The company was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Madison, N.C.

McMichael is the brother of fellow trustee Gail Drew, the father of 1999 Elon graduate Paul Brigman, and the son of the late Dalton McMichael Sr., a generous Elon benefactor. The university’s Dalton L. McMichael Sr. Science Center is named in his honor.

Through the McMichael Family Foundation, Mac McMichael and his siblings have made major gifts to support scholarships for students at Elon University School of Law.

McMichael has a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He previously served on the Guilford College board of trustees and is a member of the board of visitors for Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

James K. Sankey

Sankey is president and CEO of InVue Security Products, a security products company selling to top global retailers in more than 50 countries, with offices in the United States, Europe and Asia. Prior to establishing InVue, Sankey established successful businesses in the consumer products, packaging products and data products segments, before selling those companies to both financial and strategic buyers.

Sankey is a member of the board of trustees of Theranova, a humanitarian prosthetics and orthotics clinic in Romania. He previously served on the board of Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C., and is active in building and supporting orphanages in five countries.

Sankey and his wife, Beth, live in Charlotte and are parents of two Elon students.
