Omri Shimron, assistant professor of music, will be the featured pianist in a new work by composer David Lipten. It will be released commercially on the Ablaze label later this fall.
The work, Whirl, is a contemporary composition for piano, clarinet and violin commissioned by Michigan State University for the Verdehr Trio. The recording session took place Friday, Aug. 13, at Katzin Hall on the campus of Arizona State Univesrity in Tempe, Ariz., with the composer supervising. Shimron will be collaborating with Jana Starling, assistant professor at ASU, and Beth-Ilana Schneider of Duo46.
