Civitan International of North Carolina honors Earl Danieley as “Citizen of the Year”

Civitan International of North Carolina this summer honored J. Earl Danieley, Elon University's president emeritus and a professor of chemistry, with its Distinguished Citizen of the Year Award.

J. Earl Danieley

Danieley’s friend, William Gilliam, accepted the award on his behalf at an Aug. 28, 2010, ceremony in Raleigh. Danieley’s commitment to incoming students prevented him from attending the organization’s convention, and Gilliam presented Danieley with the award on Sept. 6 at the meeting of the local Altamahaw Ossipee Civitan Club.

The award itself bears the name of Dr. Luther Medlin, who distinguished himself “with a lifetime of dedicated service to his community in the field of education and to Civitan by serving in many capacities including president of Civitan International.”
