Winners announced in Elon Innovation Challenge

More than 120 students from six North Carolina universities took part this month in a third annual contest sponsored by the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and by S.E.E.D., a student group at Elon dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship. The Elon Innovation Challenge concluded Nov. 22 with an afternoon awards ceremony honoring three teams that were lauded by a panel of local entrepreneurs for their work.

Elon University students Taylor Kane and Katherine Malkin hosted the Elon Innovation Challenge awards ceremony on Nov. 22 in the LaRose Digital Theatre.

Students from Elon University, Barton College, UNC Charlotte, UNC Chapel Hill, Pfeiffer University and Davidson College took part in the contest.

The creativity competition for college students in North Carolina asked teams to solve a common problem in four days while creating as much value as possible. Teams conveyed their results in a short video posted to YouTube.

For this 2010 contest, participants were tasked with adding value to newspapers. The top three finishers as judged by the panel of local entrepreneurs won money to be donated to a charity of their choice.
